Leach Field Restoration Solutions
Over the course of time, a septic leach field, also known as a drain field, can accumulate a layer of “tar” between the stone and the dirt called biomat. As this biomat matures it can become so thick that wastewater can not pass through the absorption bed. In other words, your leach field begins to operate more like a bathtub (holding water), rather than absorb into the ground as it was designed to do.
When a leach field begins to behave in this manner, it slowly becomes saturated and causes the whole septic system to fail! This could mean lots of money in costly repairs and/or restoration, and possible fines if left go for a long period of time. If you find that you are having septic system drainage problems, then here are some possible solutions for restoration.
- The Terralift- In some states, the terralift can be an expensive, but very viable option. A terralift service can run anywhere between $750.00-$4000.00, depending on what part of the country you live in. However, the state of Pennsylvania does not allow this procedure to be preformed! (Click here to learn about the Pennsylvania Terralift Scam.)
The Terra-Lift uses air pressure to fracture the biomat and allow the water to drain like it was designed to. Be sure to check with your local Township or Municipality to see if this procedure is legal to preform in your area. - New Leach Field Installation- Sometimes the biomat in the leach field can become so thick that the only option may be to dig out the old stone, the piping, and the layer of clogged dirt and replace it with sand after everything dries out. This is, of course, assuming you will still be allowed to do a repair on and old system. Unfortunately, most Townships and Municipalities in the State of Pennsylvania will have you replace your old system with a whole new system!
- Bio-Rem E-D- Bio-Rem E-D becomes active in liquid. The enzymes present in this product breaks down organic waste into food for the bacteria present in your septic system. The bacteria then uses this food to multiply and produce more enzymes. This cycle continues until the waste has been completely digested leaving the area free of solids, free flowing, and odor-free.
Bio-Rem E-D does not give off odors or toxic fumes, and it will not damage or harm skin. Furthermore, it contains no acids, caustics, choloride, or organic solvents. Bio-Rem E-D effectively removes solids from the interior surfaces of sewer lines and unclogs leach lines when used in shock type dosages. (Click here to contact us to find out if Bio-Rem E-D is a viable option for you..) - After Shock- AfterShock is a unique blend of laboratory-enhanced, naturally-occurring, primarily aerobic organisms that are type-specific to the various substances that typically clog drain fields and leaching structures. AfterShock also contains a proprietary, bacteria-friendly, time-release oxidizing agent that will accelerate the bacterial action of the organisms in the product to restore septic drainage in most soil absorption areas.
Unlike all other bioremediation products, AfterShock’s consortium of bacteria and oxidizer can be applied at the same time. The oxygen-accelerated bacterial action will quickly digest the organic solid materials that reduce the drain field’s capacity to absorb water, effectively restoring drainage through a natural process. The bacteria contained in AfterShock are authorized by the USDA, and have been treating septic systems around the world since 1976. The septic leach field is the most sensitive and costliest component of your septic system. For this reason, it is essential that you protect your septic systems leach field with consistent, on-going preventative maintenance. This will increase the lifespan of your leach field, and will save you a lot of money in the long run by avoiding the repairs that are associated with leach field problems. Simply put…You want to avoid running into any problems!
